the LGBTQI+ Staff & PGR Student Network at the University of Strathclyde

In alignment with the University of Strathclyde's commitment to EDI, the STEM Equals team is worked with the Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion team to facilitate the creation of StrathPride: the LGBTQI+ staff and PGR student network. We believe the network provides an opportunity to build a more diverse and inclusive academic community and enhance support for and visibility of a marginalised and underrepresented community at Strathclyde. The STEM Equals team have met with members of the leadership committees of the LGBTQI+ staff and PGR student networks at other universities in the UK and discussed the support mechanisms provided to them by their institutions. LGBTQI+ includes Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning, Intersex, Asexual, Pansexual people and more! Allies are welcome in the Network, but please note that the A stands for Asexual. Please also note that some meetings or events may be held exclusively for the LGBTQI+ members of the Network.

The Network formally launched on 21 October 2020 and over 100 Strathclyde staff and PGR students have joined so far! Please complete this online membership form.

StrathPride is a place to find and build community. Whilst you will find supportive colleagues and peers in StrathPride, the leadership and members are unable to provide counselling. If you or a colleague/peer/friend are looking for additional support, check out these organisations:

Upcoming Events

In addition to regularly formal monthly meetings and regularly Network Cafés, held twice a month for informal virtual get togethers, StrathPride hosts events and gatherings throughout the year.

StrathPride Network: Welcome/Welcome Back

We will celebrate one year since StrathPride launched and collectively share ideas for StrathPride's future. Over 100 Strathclyde staff and PGR students who are LGBTQI+ and allies have joined StrathPride since it formally launched on 21 October 2020.

Members are from across the university. Out of our current members, 23.4% are from Professional and Student Services/IT/Library/Student Union; 22.4% are from the faculty of Engineering (ENG); 27% are from the faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (HaSS); 16.8% are from the faculty of Science (SCI); 10.3% are from the Strathclyde Business School (SBS).

StrathPride Rainbow Lanyards

STEM Equals researcher Dr Marco Reggiani designed rainbow lanyards. The small batch of lanyards will be available to the first members of StrathPride (Please note: Ally members will need to have completed LGBT+ diversity training at Strathclyde or elsewhere before receiving a lanyard. Additional training opportunities will be organised at Strathclyde).
